JACKSON — Ever wonder how skiing got started way back when in Jackson? If not, you need to read a great new children’s book, “Wacker’s Secret.”

While you might have heard that the late Edwin Moody, George Morton and Phil Robertson installed the first cable lift at Black Mountain in 1935; or that the late Carroll Reed started the first ski school in Jackson in December 1936; or that it was Brad Boynton and others who established the non-profit Jackson Ski Touring Foundation in 1972, this charming new book describes how a group of forest animals actually got skiing started on a lark.
