CONWAY — A hiker died Sunday after climbing to the summit of Black Cap. Shortly before 7 p.m., New Hampshire Fish and Game was notified that a 59-year-old hiker was having a medical emergency near the summit of Black Cap. He was with family who attempted life-saving measures, but he died.

Along with Fish and Game conservation officers, members of North Conway Fire and Rescue and Action Ambulance responded.

I am very sorry to hear of this. Black Cap is a lovely trail, but if you do not hike on a regular basis, you might find it a bit steep and hard. I'd recommend that people who have not hiked on a regular basis start out with the trails in Whittaker Woods before trying Black Cap.
