Healing Old Wounds: Vietnam Marine warriors coming to Conway June 1

Maj. Frank McCarthy (fourth from left, holding child) wants to give recognition to former Marine Corps veterans of the Vietnam War. (COURTESY PHOTO)

"They never got the recognition from the Marine Corps at the time that I feel they deserved, so that is why I am doing this. I'll be reading their account into the House Journal — which is a weekly record of everything that was spoken in the House each week — under what is referred to as a "unanimous consent."

He says the men were not formally recognized for their actions in January 1967. There was talk, he said, of nominating Lt. Flick for a Navy Cross, but it never went up the chain of command.
