Bradley Ronald Joy, 17, a student at Fryeburg Academy, died in a single-vehicle crash on Route 113 near the Baldwin Consolidated School Wednesday, Oct. 12.Joy was the passenger in a 1994 Buick Century driven by a friend, Kelli Boutot, 21, according to Capt. Bill Rhoads with Cumberland County Sheriff's Department. Boutot was treated for serious injuries at Maine Medical Center. Her condition was stabilized by Thursday, Oct. 13, Rhoads reported.Boutot moved to Baldwin recently from New Jersey, Rhoads said. News reports indicate she is a graduate of Fryeburg Academy. The sheriff's office received a report that somebody went by the site of the crash around 5:30 a.m. and saw a utility pole snapped off along the highway, Rhoads said. About 6:58 a.m. dispatchers were called, once it was discovered that the vehicle was at the bottom of the embankment. The sheriff's office, Sacopee Valley Rescue and West Baldwin and East Baldwin fire departments responded. The sedan apparently struck the pole and plunged over a steep embankment, where the vehicle sustained major damage. Rhoads said it took an hour and 15 minutes to extricate Boutot. Emergency workers found Joy dead in the passenger seat, police said."It appears they were headed toward Fryeburg, although that hasn't really been determined," Rhoads said, noting that the crash remained under investigation on Thursday, with an accident reconstruction team at the site. The crash occurred along a relatively straight stretch of Route 113, Rhoads said, and the accident didn't appear to be alcohol related, although it will take three to four weeks to confirm results of a blood test on Boutot.Joy was the son of Wanda Joy-Lowrey of Fryeburg and Ronald E. Joy of Rochester. A memorial service will be held Monday, Oct. 17, at 3 p.m. at his home at 11 Brook Road in Fryeburg. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be sent to Wanda Joy-Lowrey at PO Box 462, Fryeburg, ME 04037 in the name of Kelli Boutot to establish an account to help with her medical expenses.
