CONWAY — When Judge Robert Varney was first sworn to the bench, Richard Nixon was president. The Brady Bunch was still on television. It was 1974. The Rubik's Cube was invented that year. Volkswagen introduced the Golf, and Barbara Streisand released the album "The Way We Were." It went to No. 1.
"That was a long time ago," says Varney, who retired a year ago. "In the four decades since then, he presided over Carroll County, hearing cases until late 2014. "That would be 40-and-a-half years," he notes.
