Walter Allen Greene, 80, of Sam Brown Hill Road, Brownfield, died May 20, at the Bridgton Hospital.He was born in Center Harbor, Feb. 2, 1924, the son of Frank and Viola (Vittum) Greene. He grew up and was educated in South Tamworth. During World War II, Walter was in the infantry and received the Purple Heart, Silver Star, and Bronze Star. He lived in Brownfield since 1952 and was a self-employed logger and farmer. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Bernice (Densmore) Greene of Brownfield; two sons, Timothy W. and wife Elizabeth of Brownfield and Bruce A. and wife Joanne of Flourtown, Pa.; a daughter, Linda Jane Densmore and husband Jeff of Conway; a brother, Clyde Greene of Salt Lake City, Utah; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Brownfield Community Church, with the Rev. Denis Dunn officiating. Burial will be with military honors at Pine Grove Cemetery in Brownfield. Donations may be made in memory of Walter to the Fryeburg Rescue, P.O. Box 177, Fryeburg, ME 04037. Arrangements are with Wood Funeral Home of Fryeburg.
