LATE APRIL WAS ONCE KNOWN AS the slower season in the valley, but things have certainly picked up in recent years. It’s a far cry from when I came here from college in the late 1970s.

When I first got here, anyone who could would go on vacation out of the valley after the busy winter season and head to points south — so much so, that everyone used to joke that “could the last person to leave the valley please switch off the lights.”
