CONWAY – It was a strange feeling on Tuesday evening, returning from vacation on the coast, coming down Bowling Alley Hill (aka Burger King Hill), realizing that the valley was now a place not only without Dick Badger, my brother Steve Eastman but now also without Joe Berry, a community visionary for the past 49 years who passed at age 77 Aug. 2 after an accelerated battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Like everyone who has posted condolences on Facebook this week or who shared their memories about Joe in the article penned by Mark Guerringue that ran in Thursday’s edition of the Sun, I am saddened to know that Joe and his upbeat, community spirit is gone — but I am heartened that his legacy is being carried on by his two sons, Alec and Ace, at the Berry Companies.
