Thanksgiving was late this year, and as soon as the last wish bone was cracked, Christmas began in earnest, as evidenced by seasonal music played in stores, twinkling lights illuminating nocturnal blackness and frantic shoppers intent on acquiring bargains crowding local stores all against a background of frigid temperatures and snowy weather. For the next three weeks, Tamworth’s non-profits, including libraries, churches, musical groups and museums will host events exemplifying the spirit of Christmas.
The Tamworth Community Nurse Association’s popular fundraiser traditionally heralds Christmas season in our lovely town on Friday, Dec. 6, at 6 p.m. Billed as a holiday gala, this year, it’s a gastronomic festival featuring a buffet prepared by Kimball and Nesa Packard with carved roast beef, baked seafood medley, roast chicken with potatoes and onions, vegetarian lasagna and ratatouille, followed by a festive dessert. The venue is my favorite location: The Preserve at Chocorua. Tickets are $60 per person, with a cash bar. Reservations are required. Call (603) 323-8511.
