Author Richard Joslin will be the featured speaker at the annual meeting of the White Mountains Interpretive Association to be held in the Lincoln Ballroom at the North Conway Grand at Settler's Green on Monday, March 25, beginning at 7 p.m. The meeting and lecture are open to the public at no charge, and light refreshments will be served.Mr. Joslin is an architect in Cambridge, Mass., and is on the faculty of Smith College in Northampton. He is the great-grandson of Sylvester Marsh, the visionary who built the Mount Washington Cog Railway.Joslin's book, "Sylvester Marsh and the Cog Railway," summarizes the extraordinary life, career, and inventions of the man behind the world's first mountain climbing railway. Thoroughly researched, the book is illustrated with historical drawings, models, and photographs, many never before published. Sylvester Marsh achieved great success, but his story is also one of conflict and disappointment. The slide lecture will incorporate any of the images from Mr. Joslin's book, as well as insights from the author. Copies of the book are for sale at the Saco Ranger Station on the Kancamagus Highway in Conway, and at other area bookstores. Copies will also be available at the program on March 25.For more information about this program and about membership in the WMIA, please contact the Saco Ranger Station at 447-5448.
