Torin Marc Hjelmstad, 34, of Kittery, Maine, died on Feb. 19, 2020, at Portsmouth, N.H., Regional Hospital due to heart failure.

He was born on Sept. 27, 1985, in North Conway, N.H., to Doug and Lynn (Nelson) Hjelmstad. He attended Conway schools, graduating from Kennett High in 2004.

He was diagnosed with leukemia in 2003 and endured a 2-year treatment program with courage and great community support. He attended Keene State College, graduating in 2008.

After graduation he lived and worked in the Boston area, before recently relocating to Kittery, Maine. At the time of his death, he was employed as a tech writer with Charles River Development.

Torin is survived by his wife Sarah, son Lucas and daughter Lilli of Kittery, Maine; stepdaughter Michaela Clarke of Bridgewater, Mass.; mother Lynn Hjelmstad of Conway, N.H.; father Rev. Doug Hjelmstad of Benkelman, Neb.; sister Kirsten Kiefer and husband, Jason, of Minturn, Colo.

A memorial service will be held at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Newington, N.H., on Feb. 29 at 1 p.m. A celebration of life will follow at Cisco Brewers in Portsmouth, N.H.
