A workshop for those interested in serving on local energy committees or learning about energy conservation and efficiency will be held at the Conway Public Library on June 11 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Registration and dinner are available from 5:30 p.m. on.In this time of drastic increases in energy costs and increasingly recognized impacts from climate change, its critical communities find practical solutions to local energy consumption. Over 90 towns in New Hampshire now have local energy committees, which are taking action on climate change and energy usage."With heating oil prices doubling this year, it's incumbent upon local leadership to closely examine all aproaches to energy reduction: conservation, efficiency, weatherization, and somewhat longer term, renewables," said Chuck Henderson, a member of the Mount Washington Valley Energy Committee. This meeting is being organized by the Mount Washington Valley Chamber Green Team in conjunction with the Carbon Coalition LEC Working Group. Each town may form its own committee and valley-wide informational events such as this will be held periodically. The workshop will include panel discussions on: Starting and maintaining your Energy Committee; Taking stock of local energy use: inventory & benchmarking tools; Resources for municipalities and communities. For more information e-mail chuck@chuckroast.com.
