Koop opens new medical history lecture series

 

AKoop speaking in Tamworthllen Koop kicked off a new lecture series at Remick Museum and Farm Tuesday night with a talk on the history of the American health care system from Colonial times to the Affordable Care Act. Koop, an assistant professor of history at Dartmouth University, talked about how American health care has been shaped, not only by developments in medicine, but also by by social forces, economic trends, party politics and world events. The next lecture in the series, scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 14, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., will feature local doctor Marianne Jackson, who will share historical perspectives on dying and modern day options and choices for end of life care.
