PINKHAM NOTCH — Mount Washington has an international reputation for its severe and quickly-changing weather conditions, and it once again held true to its nature for the 59th annual Northeast Delta Dental Mount Washington Road Race.

Held June 15, the morning brought high winds to the summit, with wind chills dropping down into the 20s. Safety is always paramount for the event, and the race organizers at the Mt. Washington Auto Road were hopeful that they wouldn’t need to implement their contingency plan to run the race to a point well below the summit. But Mother Nature cooperated just in time, parting the clouds and reducing winds, changing the home of the “world’s worst weather” to one of sunshine and prime race conditions — much to the delight of the 1,016 racers and the fans who came to support them.
