Author and illustrator Charles Churchill visits the Ossipee Public Library on July 19 at 7 p.m. to read from his new book, "Early Settlement and Other Poems."Churchill taught English at Kingswood Regional High School in Wolfeboro for over 20 years. His poetry recalls the way of life at the time farmers still struggled to scratch a living out of the hard soils of New England. Unfortunately, this stubborn determination was not shared by their children, who chose to move on to mill towns or out west. Now, only cellar holes and stone walls are left to remind us of earlier generations. Churchill has a rich voice that will remind many of Robert Frost.Dawn Marion, a Center Ossipee native, will also exhibit the illustrations she did for this book and speak about the process involved in working with authors and publishers in creating artwork for books. Marion's illustrations have appeared in ten books.Everyone is welcome. Refreshments will follow the program. For more information, please call the library at 539-6390.
