There are a lot of defunct car brands deserving of revival but, in my opinion, Yugo isn’t one of them. However, University Professor Doctor Aleksandar Bjelic didn’t check with me before, according The Autopian website, acquiring the international trademark rights to the Yugo brand. The good doctor is an engineer and economist who has worked in high-level marketing and is well known in the German automotive and supply industry so he may have better insight than I do.
As of now, only sketches, by hired Serbian designer Darko Marceta, of a new Yugo concept have been released and the project is still very young. There are no plans to sell them in the U.S., but the idea of an inexpensive new car is still very much alive on the world stage and unlike so many recently introduced new vehicles, this one is planned to be powered by a gas engine.
