WEST BALDWIN, Maine — Budget Blinds has been providing high-quality custom window treatments throughout the Mount Washington Valley since 2008.
Based in southwestern Maine, the business is family-owned and operated.
Owner Conrad Dunning and son, Aaron, handle the sales calls and installations. Conrad's wife, Dianne, does the accounting.
"I met my wife at the Fryeburg Fair, and we've been married for 43 years," Conrad said.
The business is a "shop-at-home service" and does not have a storefront.
"We bring our mobile showroom to people's homes," Dunning said. "We have color swatches and hand samples of our products, and provide full service from sales call to installation."
They sell and install wood blinds, aluminum blinds, vertical blinds, motorized blinds and vinyl blinds. They also offer roller shades, Roman shades, bamboo shades, pleated shades, woven wood shades and solar shades.
Their product line also includes stylish plantation shutters, cafe shutters, wooden shutters and exterior shutters.
"Providing excellent customer service is far more important than anything else we do," Conrad said. "Our goal is to continue to offer high-quality products and to have a solution for everyone's window needs, whether that's insulation, privacy, light control, aesthetics or any combination."
Conrad, 65, is from the Sacopee Valley, Maine, area, and has strong ties to the Mount Washington Valley. His uncle was Dr. Gene Hussey, a well-known North Conway veterinarian.
"This franchise was purchased in July of 2008 after my son and I left the retractable-awning business," Dunning said.
"We were looking to start our own business, and our only regret is that we didn't start it sooner."
