Kids are back in school and summer has endedanother year until Madison Old Home Week and summer vacations.The Madison Historical Society will present its September program on Sept. 15 at 7 p.m. at the historical society building. The program will be "Old Houses" and will be presented by Ray Stineford. I have seen this program presented and it is well worth seeing again. I can't wait! See you on Sept. 15 for a wonderful and historical walk through a slide show of old houses and Ray's interesting program.News from the Madison Rec Department has been submitted by Annette Libby:Field hockey practices are held on Mondays and Thursdays. A game schedule is being prepared. Mouth and shin guards are required. The department is looking for any old stick with which we could start a stick swap. The department has a few in which to begin. If you have one, are interested in exchanging for one of ours, or are in need of a stick to use for the season, let the recreation department know. Sign up at the bulletin board by the gym; a health form packet is available there as well. Laura Graves will be heading them up this year, with the help of Deb Meader and Mrs. Gashott. Thanks, gals, from the rec department.Soccer for fourth, fifth and sixth grades: A coach is needed. A schedule of games is being planned, and sign-ups for boys and girls will be on the bulletin board down by the gym. A health form packet is available there as well. Mouth guards and shin guards will be required this year.Soccer coaches for lower grades are needed. The rec department would like to split the group in two, with K-1 and 2-3. If you're interested in coaching, please let Annette Libby know at the below number. Games cannot begin until they have a least one coach.The rec department will begin practice for flag football in a few weeks. Watch for updates. Sign-ups are on the bulletin board by the gym. Paul Cameron will be heading them up this year, with the help of Mr. Arnold.Women's pickup basketballsounds great, doesnt it? Give Annette a call if you are interested in a night out of bastetball and exercise!Aerobics continues in the Madison Elementary School gym. Come and sign in and join in the fun. There is no cost for the program and you can reach Annette for more information on dates and times. The annual Fall Harvest Carnival is fast approaching. The rec department will begin with the treasure trunk at the Madison Elementary School on Friday, Oct. 28, beginning at 2:45 p.m. Trunk participants should be ready by 2:30 p.m. There will be prize given to the best-decorated trunk. Please come and join. Pass the word and get your family and friends to join in. On Saturday, Oct. 29, from 5 to 8 p.m., is the carnival itself. The Madison PTO has joined the efforts to make this event even more fun.I know it is early butSanta will be arriving for breakfast again this year on Dec. 10. Mark your calendar, breakfast will be served from 9 to 10 a.m., with Santa arriving at 10, for free pictures and gift with the purchase of breakfast to the first 100 children. The cost is $6 for adults and children 12 and under $5. This annual event is a fund raiser which helps provide the funds for the many free events that the recreation department sponsors throughout the year.Madison Mustang bumper stickers are available for $2.
