'Boxing is My Sanctuary' author to speak at Library

The Conway Public Library will host a visit with local resident and author Ted Sares, whose recently published book "Boxing Is My Sanctuary" (iUniverse, 2007), is receiving rave reviews. Sares will be at the library at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 29. The book is a collection of essays that explores both sides of this controversial sport. From the mean streets of the 1950s Chicago to the glitz of the modern boxing circuit, Sares reflects on the paradoxical refuge he has always found at ringside.Praise has been lavish for the book. Well known boxing writer Jim Amato says, "This is the most heartfelt boxing book I've read in years. Ted's perspective on the sport is absolutely endearing. To me he is the A. J. Liebling of our era...I highly recommend the book to any boxing fan. It is like walking through history, up close and personal.
