Rake those leaves and get the yard ready for the mower. With the onset of warmer weather (finally) and most of the Christmas decorations stowed away, we can get on to thinking about what we will do to enjoy the summer months. But in the meantime, there is some business to attend to: On Thursday, May 1, the Jackson PTO will meet at 6:30 p.m. for the first in a series of meetings on a variety of parenting issues. Pam Stimpson, a member of SAU 9's behavior management team will be presenting "Clear Language, Clear Consequences." All are welcome to attend with refreshments being served. The Jackson planning board will be having a work session on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Jackson town office building. Decisions, decisions, decisions!! PTO? JPB? PTO? JPB? You decide. There will be a review of the master plan for Jackson, but the meeting is a work session only and no action will be taken. The public is welcome to attend. Jackson Grammar School with host its annual talent show at Jackson Town Hall at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, May 2. Plan to attend and be the first to discover the hidden talents of the stars of tomorrow. All are welcome to attend. On Saturday, May 3, it's time to clean up. Only it's Jackson Public Library this weekend. From 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. all those with green thumbs, or those just in the spring cleaning mode are encouraged to help clean up the grounds and gardens at the Library. Following the clean up, the library will be holding its annual meeting at 11:30 a.m. All interested parties are encouraged to attend. For more information, call Betsy Kent at 383-9731 or 383-9076. No t-shirts, no picnic lunch, no prizes - just the opportunity to be surrounded the source of all the knowledge you'll ever need in the world today, the Jackson Public Library. And now, the important stuff to add to your calendar. After years of paying long distant charges to call Kennett High and everyone else in Conway, we now have the opportunity to rid ourselves of those charges. Last fall, a petition was circulated asking the Public Utilities Commission to change Verizon's calling areas to include 447 in our 383 boundary. Finally, a public hearing has been scheduled for Monday, May 19 at 7 p.m. at Jackson Town Hall to discuss this proposed change. It is imperative, yes, imperative, that all the 383 subscribers attend this hearing. This is "no done deal" yet and the PUC is impressed with numbers, that is, in turnout. So, the greater number of bodies we have to overflow Town Hall, the better our chance in no longer paying long distant charges for 447 calls. Plan on attending and I will remind you all again. Also, on May 19, but at 4 p.m., the inhabitants of the Jackson Water Precinct will meet for a public hearing regarding the expansion of the JWP boundaries. The expansion will be the inclusion of the Inn at Thorn Hill into the Jackson Water Precinct. A majority vote of the Board of Selectmen followed by a majority vote of members present is necessary for this expansion. And now on to the requests: The Jackson Historical Society is in the process of republishing interviews done by Jackson Grammar School students in 1974 and 1983. This time, the JHS would like to include photos of the interviewers and the interviewees. Right now they are in need of the following photos to complete the project. So, if you have a photo, please call the JHS (383-4060) and leave a message. The photos will be scanned and returned to you. They are in need of these photos ASAP as the printer is waiting on the final proof reading and these last photographs. The missing photos are: Marcia Chadbourne - Eagle Mountain House, wife of Orin; Mary Hayes - wife of Carl; Annie Hayes - wife of Ray; Pat Roberts - wife of Ray; Rodney Charles - husband of Ellen and two of the student interviewers from 1983, Lance Davis and Sean Tannerhill. Help them out if you can and do it today. Belated birthday wishes to Marta Ramsey (May 29) and Phil Spinney (May 29). Remember the week of May 5 is Teacher's Appreciation Week and mark your calendars for May 11. Mother's Day and "This One's For You - George" a special concert in memory of beloved George Dreghorn, bartender extraordinary and all around great guy, at the Wildcat Tavern from 8 p.m. till midnight. Great entertainment, a special CD and great raffle prizes. That's it for this week. Get out that power rake, think spring, think green and let me know what is happening in your world. See you all around the loop.
