Another very successful Old Home Week, thanks to all our volunteers and loyal patrons, has come to a close. What a strange feeling to wake up and not have an event to work on or to attend. We just have all those hum-drum duties which always seem to wait to be done. The OHW committee wishes to thank you all for your support.Beth Hentz and Jennifer Molin, co-chairs of Freedom's OHWevents, would like to thank all the volunteers that who helped make this year's festivities so successful. There are so many jobs that need to be done and without the volunteers OHW wouldn't happen. It is not that the jobs are so large or complicated but there are so many loose ends hanging out there no one or two persons could do it. With so many volunteers doing their bit, all jobs get done and everyone has fun including the volunteers. The next OHW committee meeting is Sept. 18 at the church at 9 a.m. Cometo volunteer or with ideas. The Water and Land Sports were the usual success with many, many attendees. Don't think we ever had more at the water sports. Of course, it was a perfect beach day.The land sports was livened for the Ribbon Writers by the new sprinkler system at the ballfield that pops up in different places and soaked the ribbons and paper and us writers. The races weren't affected so much because kids love to run through hoses. Incidentally, a disposable camera was found in the stands. If it is yours, call the Stokes. The Tour of Freedom and The Sakes Alive Program sponsored by the library was a huge success, as was the Green Mountain Hike, and the Band Concert/Ice Cream Social. The village was alive with activity Friday morning and looked to be doing well.On Friday, 21 people (12 adults and nine children) took off in six kayaks and six canoes from the Village Condos next to Berry Bay through Leavitt Bay into Broad Bay. A picnic lunch was enjoyed at Camp Robin Hood under clear blue skies. They continued up Broad Bay into Danforth Bay, ending at the beach at Danforth Resort. Sounds like a great trip. Special thanks to Mary Jane Hancock at Freedom Village, Camp Robin Hood, Jamie Cole at Danforth Bay and Tim Powers manager and to Biff Manhard for leading it for OHW.The triathlon went very smoothly, thanks to Martha and David Boyd, but I don't have all the results. We do know that Geoffrey Bickford was the overall winner. Congratulations to him. He arrived in Freedom about midnight the night before. The annual OHW tournament andmixer was Saturday afternoon with 24 players on six courts on a perfect day for spirited play at Camp Robin Hood. the winning team of Betty Lee and Jack Randall finally edged that of Dottie Read and Jim Scully to claim the winners trophy. The winners received crystal Paul Revere Bowls with date and Read and Scully received crystal bud vases and crystal tennis balls mounted on a hardwood frame. Congratulations. The play went from 1 to 4 p.m. The tournament is open to all Freedomites and their guests. Thanks to Alan Ferguson, all went well. The Ossipee Bible Church is having a garden and landscaping show on August 21 and wants to include all towns interested in entering. Entrants may submit in many forms: vases, plants, photos, videos, plans. They are interested in having many folks involved.Ann Foster from Freedom is a quilter in the Material Girls, an organization that makes quilts and other organizations to fill their need for quilts. They recently met at Ann's on Huckins Road for a meeting and lunch followed by a tour of Ossipee Lake via boat. Attending were Pauline Libby, Beatrix Killam, Roberta Davidson, Cynthia Nichols, Priscilla Bourassa, Joyce Nuell, Betty Rogers, Paula Knight, Jean Hinckley. and two sisters, Ruth and Eleanor whose last name we don't have. Sounds like a nice outing for hard workers.Thank you, everybody, for sending news. Please use E-mail if possible or regular mail. My E-mail is cmargery@ncia.net, and regular mail is P.O. Box 229.
