Whenever I see a woodchuck, I think of this large waddling rodent being the target practice animal of choice for the whole human race. The heavy-bodied woodchuck has long been known for being a resident of farm fields, adjacent to woodlands. They dwell in pastures, meadows, and open, brushy hillsides.

Their burrowing extensively in cultivated land makes them a prime complaint candidate for an eastern farm boy's .22 caliber rifle. I often wonder how many woodchucks have fallen to the developing accuracy of young, rural sharpshooters.
