SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE

From left: Miles Morales (Shameik Moore), Peter Parker (Jake Johnson), Spider-Gwen (Hailee Steinfeld), Spider-Man Noir (Nicolas Cage), Peni Parker (Kimiko Glenn) and Spider-Ham (John Mulaney) in "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse." (COURTESY OF SONY PICTURES)

After six solo live-action Spider-Man films with three different continuities in the span of 16 years and a seventh film coming next year, a big-budget feature-length animated Spider-Man film may seem completely redundant.

Amazingly and spectacularly, “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse” is more than just a shameless cash grab. It is a visually stunning, hilarious and surprisingly resonant superhero tale.
