11-9-18 Bohemian Rhapsody

From left: Joseph Mazzello (as John Deacon), Ben Hardy (as Roger Taylor), Rami Malek (as Freddie Mercury) and Gwilym Lee (as Brain May) star as the members of the legendary band Queen in the bio-pic “Bohemian Rhapsody.” (COURTESY OF 20TH CENTURY FOX)

It seems fitting that, much like the song it takes its name from, the Queen bio-pic “Bohemian Rhapsody” is being disparaged by critics but embraced with open arms by audiences.

The film had a troubled production history which seems to have colored the opinion of many critics. Sacha Baron Cohen was originally cast as Queen’s legendary frontman Freddie Mercury. Cohen wanted to make a film focused on Mercury, where as Queen band members Brian May and Roger Taylor, who are producers on the film, wanted a film about the whole band.
