It’s shocking to accept, but July has given way to August and the race is on to Labor Day. In between lies four weeks of classic summer weather, and the cream of the crop in terms of locally produced New Hampshire farm products.
Granite State growers are joining their peers across the U.S. in celebrating that fact with Eat Local Month. Central to the celebration is National Farmers Market Week, running from Aug. 4-10. It offers the opportunity for farmers to market fresh food directly to the consumer. These venues have a significant financial impact to both growers and local economies. According to statistics recently released by United States Department of Agriculture, farmers’ markets and farm stands account for roughly $2 billion of the $3 billion that Americans spend annually on farm-direct products.
