EFFINGHAM — Pollinator Week is an annual celebration dedicated to supporting pollinator health, initiated and led by the Pollinator Partnership, featuring events and programs by organizations around the world. It’s a time to raise awareness about the essential role pollinators play in our ecosystems — and to inspire action to protect them. This year, GMCG is hosting programs for all ages at its Conservation Center located at 236 Huntress Bridge Road, Effingham. Participants can learn about pollinators, how to create pollinator habitat, and how to contribute to community science efforts to learn more about them and support conservation efforts.

Pollinators include bees, beetles, flies, mosquitoes, moths, wasps, butterflies, bats, birds, ants, mammals and reptiles. Pollinators are responsible for one third of all food production, perform many ecosystem services, considered ecosystem stabilizers, essential for agriculture. We are losing biodiversity due to habitat loss, pesticides, parasites, diseases and climate change.
