Mount Washington Valley Soccer Club U14 entry into the New Hampshire Seacoast Youth Soccer League Boys Division II made a valiant challenge to upset undefeated, first place Rye on Sunday, only to fall by a 2-0 score. Coach Andre Van Coesant had nothing but praise for his team, who kept their shape "nice and tight" against a physically larger team. One touch passing on offense and trapping on defense helped to keep the locals competitive in their best performance of the season.Coach cited numerous players for stellar contributions. Kevin Murphy was outstanding in goal, and Alex Fauver held together the central defense, behind solid stopper play of Adam Levine and defender Nicky Sullivan. Zach Rocco and Kaitlyn Burton played well and have shown strong improvement during the season. Tanner Van Coesant was cited for his strong supporting role from the central midfield position. The U14s get a break from league play this weekend, before returning for the playoff stretch run with a home game at Brett School on Saturday, Oct.r 13. Also on that date, the MWVSC Fall Classic for fifth and sixth graders of Rec teams from Conway, North Conway, Jackson, Bartlett and Freedom will take place from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Kennett Middle School fields.
