PELHAM — If you want to be the best, you’ve got to beat the best. Three-time defending state champ Pelham proved it’s still the team to beat in the Division II playoffs. The Pythons took the lead on the first play from scrimmage on Saturday afternoon and never looked back in a 49-8 home quarterfinal victory over Kennett High. The No. 8 seeds from Conway moved the ball on their hosts, but the Pythons forced five turnovers on the way to their 36th consecutive victory.

“They’re really good,” Scott Stearns, Eagles’ head coach, said of Pelham. “They’re the best team we faced this season. I think it’ll be them against Souhegan in the championship game.”
