CONWAY — The Northern New England High School Mountain Biking season is underway. The local teams from Kennett High School and Fryeburg Academy have had two races. There is also a new Berlin/Gorham team this season.
The season opening race for the entire league was at Proctor Academy on Sept. 18. There were 275 riders in this all-league race. Kennett finished eighth overall as a team and Fryeburg was 17th.
Scoring riders were Kylan Morneau, team captain Kevin Faye, Reed Karnopp, Aidan Hayes and Parker Mustapha for Kennett.
Luke Dupuis, Finn Sampson, Derek Batchelor, Luke Reinbach and Ella Baptista scored for Fryeburg.
On Sept. 25, Fryeburg hosted its home, eastern division meet at Stark’s Hill. Kennett finished third as a team and Fryeburg was seventh.
Scoring riders for KHS were Karnopp, Mustapha, Morneau, Hayes and Sean Morgan.
Scoring for FA were Dupuis, Batchelor, Sampson, Baptista and Padric McGrath.
On Oct. 9, the race will be at White Mountains Regional High School, and then on Oct. 23, Kennett will host its home meet on the race course in atop Eagles Way at 3:30 p.m. The race starts and finishes adjacent to Millen Stadium and can be seen in spots from Eagles Way.
“A” riders will do three laps of a 2-plus mile course, “B” riders do two and “C” riders do one; spectators are welcome. There should be about 125 riders.
Other Kennett riders are Alex Bushey, Bridger Viger, Jett Cronin, Riley Gavett, Taylor Rothen, Tyler Cicero, Keegan Trapani, Cam Leavitt, Aidan Costello, Shea Mulkern, Brandon Nault, Sam Taylor, Brody Jesseman, Noah Lagram and Myles Harrigan. Also riding for Fryeburg are Khianna Frank and David Bellis-Bennett.
This year’s Kennett team is coached by Chris Darling and Alex Frankel, with help from Ralph Cronin and Jason Cicero.
Fryeburg is coached by Tyler Wilson and Emily Moulton.
