CONWAY — Just when you thought you’d seen it all, the Berlin and Kennett High softball teams brought something new to the diamond last Thursday.
In one of the strangest first innings, arguably ever, the visiting Mountaineers hit a long fence-clearing home run but had the batter called out for touching third base before going back to touch second appearing to end the inning. Kennett batted in its half of the inning and didn’t score. The umpires met for nearly 20 minutes in between innings and decided the home run counted and play resumed in the first inning with two outs and Berlin leading 1-0.
