For the 18th consecutive year someone is going to get a chance to drive away in an automobile thanks to the Fryeburg Recreation Department. With Fryeburg Fair starting up Sunday, the recreation department will once again be selling raffle tickets for a classic car with all proceeds going into the recreation department coffers to pay for programs and equipment."We're getting ready," Dick Cote, recreation director, said, Tuesday. "This year we're going to be doing a 1977 Corvette with a T-top and a 330 engine. I don't know what the color is going to be because I think it's probably being painted as we speak."Tickets for the vehicle are $2 each or three for $5 and seven for $10."This and our annual golf tournament (played two weeks ago) are our big fund-raisers every year," Cote said. "We've been doing the car for 18 years; it was the first fund-raisers we tried. We've been lucky that's been so successful. We haven't changed it over the years, it's always been $2 to take a shot."One thing, Cote appreciates is all of the volunteers who donate their time to working in the booth selling tickets. With just a few days before the fair starts (Sunday at 8 a.m.), Cote said a few more volunteers are still needed. "We do need a bit more help," he said. "If there's anyone willing to spend a couple of hours lending us a hand we'd love to have their support. We always have some odd hours that need to be filled in, such as from noon to 2 p.m."If anyone is interested in lending hand, they can contact Cote at 935-3933.
