FA Football - state champs - Anton Kravchuk with trophy

Anton Kravchuk hoists the gold ball among his teammates — (from left to right) Malik Sow, Anthony Bond, Holden Edenbach, Nolan Harriman, Michael Malia and Gabe Souza — after Fryeburg Academy won the Class C State Championship by beating Hermon 28-0 in Lewiston, Maine, last Saturday. Fryeburg Academy’s run through the playoffs proved they were the best football team in Class C. They used strategy, discipline and raw talent to dominate their opponents — starting with the coin toss.

The Raiders often won the toss and consistently chose to defer, a decision masterminded by coaches David Turner and David Jones. Smart. This strategy allowed their star kicker, Ricardo Schultz, to make a major impact. Schultz frequently booted the ball out of the end zone, forcing opponents to start drives at their 20-yard line. That kind of field positioning set the tone early, adding pressure on the opposing team. Smart.
