With the ski season entering February’s month of love, it’s a good time to take a look around the slopes to see what’s been falling between the flakes.

Purists are grinning their ravine-wide smiles with the unveiling of the 2025 Tuckerman Inferno Pentathlon on Mount Washington and a return to its historic roots. The storied race down the Northeast’s highest peak has been revamped. Gone are the modern adventure disciplines like biking and kayaking. Instead, it’s pure sticks underfoot for contestants on March 15 as they ascend to the summit, weather permitting, before heading down to Jackson Village utilizing a skill set comprised of technical ski mountaineering, alpine touring, backcountry and nordic adroitness.
