Nordic skiing is a human-powered sport. To go anywhere, you have to move your feet or point them down a hill. As cross-country skiers put on their skis for the first time this season, they have to remember to move their feet and balance. You can walk or shuffle on cross-country skis, but the real fun is in gliding and dancing over snow.

Last Friday, I made my first trip up to Jackson to try out the skiing. It was almost 1 p.m., so I decided to try out the “mobility” clinic Jackson Ski Touring Foundation Executive Director Ellen Chandler and former ski instructor Laurel Smith were offering that day.
