Look in my garage. There are wooden skis, downhill skis, AT setups, backcountry skis and track and skate skis for different kinds of skiing. These days, I use my track and skate skis for groomed area skiing, but occasionally, I go “off-track” to ski lightly groomed or ungroomed trails. I’ve discovered a need for something in between track skis and backcountry skis. I need light touring gear.

How did I arrive at that decision? Every time I used my track skis in those conditions, I felt they lacked stability and control. I avoided challenging trails because I knew they didn’t have the edges and width to control tricky ungroomed downhills. They weren’t great at climbing steep hills, either.
