The other day, I went up to Pinkham Notch with artist Bob Gordon of Conway and his Tibetan terrier named Champney. From the Appalachian Mountain Club's Pinkham Notch Camp, we took a pleasant 2.2 mile morning stroll up to Low's Bald Spot.
I hadn't done this hike for a few years and it was nice to be back on the lower trails around my old stomping ground, Pinkham Notch. The trail called the Old Jackson Road leaves the Tuckerman Ravine Trail on the right a few hundred feet above the AMC Trading Post. It was originally built in 1885 as a carriage road connecting Pinkham Notch with the Mount Washington Carriage Road at the two mile post. Today it is a popular connector trail for hikers and cross-country skiers. It is also part of the Appalachian Trail.
