Two things I tend not to write about much are hiking lists and bushwhacking. I like returning to old hikes and seeing them in a new way. I love bushwhacking, but usually done with a wild spirit. I joked with friends that I was holding off on my last of the 48 4,000-footers until I as 80.

Then a good friend who does go with large groups of peak baggers had me go with them up Mount Tecumseh (4,003 feet) in Waterville Valley. It is not my favorite way to hike. If a snowshoe comes loose, you have a traffic jam of impatient hikers behind you. Stop and take a good picture? The same. Let’s not even get into where social media fits into it.
