The view of Mountain Pond from the east lookout on South Doublehead (ED PARSONS PHOTO)

The Doublehead Ski trail and the cabin on top of North Doublehead were built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s to help promote skiing in the resort town of Jackson. Other ski areas became commercial but on North Doublehead remained primitive.

Today groups of either hikers or skiers can stay in the cabin for a fee by contacting the Saco District of the White Mountain National Forest.
