The Mountain Wanderer Map and Bookstore in Lincoln is an institution in the White Mountain hiking community. In business since August, 1998, it has been a go-to location for new guidebooks, maps and outdoor books, as well as trail information and hiking tips. Its founder, Steve Smith, has an encyclopedic knowledge of the mountains and loves to pass it on. His store also carried some unique gifts, and the store was a fun place to visit.

It is the kind of place you don’t want to end. It won’t. Ready to retire from the store, last September, Steve passed the store on to new owners, Forrest Chess and his partner, Caroline Eaton. The mountain outdoor community has a bright future and so does the Mountain Wanderer.
