Hiking - Mount Osceola

A happy group on the summit of Mount Osceola. (ED PARSONS PHOTO)

I generally don’t like hiking with large groups (unless I’m leading them). But this hike in March eight years ago on Mount Osceola was a pleasure.

I hadn’t hiked Mount Osceola (4,340 feet), the highest peak in the Sandwich Range, for quite a few years until this Wednesday, when I did it with a group of nine people. We did the 7.6-mile round trip from the Kancamagus Highway, starting on the Greeley Ponds Trail. Then we took the Mount Osceola Trail up the steep Osceola East Peak (4,156 feet), hiked a mile across a ridge to the main peak and returned.
