The 626-acre Chain of Ponds Community Forest in Madison is an exciting place in many ways. It is a place still being discovered.

Good things can happen. Once slated for development and also as the location for a golf course, its fate hung in the balance. Tom Henderson, an early president of the Upper Saco Valley Land Trust, saw its value as an important ecological preserve and its potential for recreation 20 years ago, as did conservation-minded locals.
