A few weeks ago, there was an ice storm in this area that left tree branches covered with ice. Later, they sparkled in the sun. I happened to be out west at the time and missed most of it, though I did catch some lingering ice in the trees on a road walk in the Ossipee Mountains.
That got me thinking about the 1998 Ice Storm, and how it affected the forest, society and each person here. I thought I’d reminisce about my experience then as a hiker, and perhaps stimulate others to look back.
