Hiking - summit of Mount Sabattus

The summit of Mount Sabattus in Lovell, Maine. (ED PARSONS PHOTO)

On Tuesday, I returned to Mount Sabattus (1,253 feet) in Lovell, Maine. Or more accurately, it invited me back while I was thinking of a hike to do. I had just returned from a few days on Orcas Island in Washington, being with my brother’s family after he passed away.

Perhaps hiking Mount Sabattus was appropriate and even necessary. I go way back there. I climbed the 1.3-mile loop with my grandson when he was four years old. Now he is a senior at Fryeburg Academy. I’d been up there long before that, with friends and alone.
