Hiking - Church Pond

Foliage seen on the far shore of Church Pond in Albany. (ED PARSONS PHOTO)

One of my favorite places to see foliage is a quiet 16-acre mountain pond called Church Pond. It is located in the wilds of the Albany Intervale, north of the Kancamagus Highway.

It is only a 1.1-mile flat trail, and easy to access early in the morning when the bright sun reflects off the multicolored leaves and the fog is lifting. Also, at the beginning of the trail, there is a short crossing of the Swift River. This adds a little adventure, eliminates many visitors who might otherwise go there and gives your feet a wakeup call in cold mountain water.
