Many of my fly-fishing friends tell stories of how they first came to the sport under the tutelage of their fathers or some favorite uncle. I wish I could say that this is how I learned, but the truth is I came to the sport much later in life and taught myself.

Teaching yourself to fly fish is a lot like being your own lawyer. I would personally recommend that you find yourself a mentor or take a course from a competent source if you intend to pursue the sport.
