Sharing a special fishing spot is a time honored tradition. (STEVEN ANGERS PHOTO)

Every year, after we have been operating the shop for seven days a week, ten hours per day and we return to the shop being closed on Tuesday, it has been tradition to take the day and go to Pittsburg and fish the favorite pond of my dad. As we have gotten older, it has turned into an overnight trip, staying Monday night to get the most out of our first Tuesday off.

While tradition had us staying at a lodge room at Tall Timber Lodge on Back Lake, there were no lodge rooms available this year. We went to plan B and were lucky to find a lodge room at The Glen, the historic lodge on the shores of First Connecticut Lake. It is still held in the grand tradition of the old lodges with the big fireplace in the great room and bedrooms off to the side. It just reeks of old-time anglers and hunters.
