North Country Angling - fly boxes

Barbless hooks require specialized fly boxes that include magnets. (STEVE ANGERS PHOTO)

Troutman entered the fly shop where it all began for him and the Old Timer. There was no better place to get intel and purchase the flies necessary for a successful outing than the Dick Surette Fly Fishing Shop. Back in the day, Dick and the Old Timer would talk shop, both being school principals, while Troutman would ogle at the various fly-tying materials. Dick was quick to hand the young angler a fly from the dollar fly bin or fly-tying materials from the discard bin.

All these thoughts were streaming through Troutman’s mind as he walked around the latest iteration of the fly shop, it now being called the North Country Angler. Troutman had tied the flies for the Old Timer’s birthday present and was looking for a fly box as the Christmas present to put the flies in. The Old Timer was still using his Perrine fly boxes from the 1970s.
