North Country Angling - The Connecticut Lakes Working Forest

The Connecticut Lakes Working Forest is home to remote trout fishing. (LESLIE ANGERS PHOTO)

With the recent news that Gov. Kelly Ayotte has reached an agreement to resume logging in the Connecticut Lakes Headwaters Working Forest, thank you, Governor. It brought back many memories of how logging was an integral part of accessing remote trout waters.

Back when logging was a big business and the Brown Paper Company was king of the hill, each year would bring the chance to see where the logging was taking place and how close any of the roads would bring the angler to a prize trout stream. Logging roads were built as temporary roads that were used during winter when everything was frozen solid and served as a drivable road for the skidders and the logging trucks.
