North Country Angling - fish identification

Check these points of emphasis when fishing for salmon and brown trout. (COURTESY N.H. FISH AND GAME)

The angler walked in the door of the shop one day this summer with that wide grin that a successful angler always has after spending time on the water. The banter starts almost immediately. Where the angler went, what flies were used, and, invariably, what was caught.

This particular angler was proud as a peacock. He claimed to have caught several landlocked salmon in the Saco River. It was hard to burst his bubble but there have been no salmon in the Saco for a very long time.
