In the early stages of the fly fishing journey that my dad and I traveled, we were the typical beginners. My first fly fishing outfit was a kit from Cocoran’s Supply and my dad’s outfit was the Fenwick fly rod and the Pflueger Medalist reel. Both rods were constructed of fiberglass and cast seven weight double taper fly lines. The standard of the day.

We learned early on that Orvis was the sign of an accomplishes angler. Many of the anglers at the local fish and game club fished Orvis fly rods. Most were constructed of bamboo but there were many of the “new fangled” glass rods among the gentry.
